Ibrahim Baggili (PhD)

Founder, Executive Director, and Elder Family Chair of Computer Science & Cybersecurity

Dr. Ibrahim Baggili has extensive experience in the area of Cyber Forensics Research and Education. Prior joining UNH he established the first Cyber Forensics Research Laboratory in the Middle East at Zayed University in the U.A.E. Prior to that he was at Purdue, where he received all his degrees, and was also a Graduate Lecturer and a Researcher at Purdue's famous CERIAS. Cinthya Grajeda Mendez (MSc)

Lab and Grant Manager for Cyber Corps SFS Scholarship for Service)

Cinthya Grajeda was an undergraduate Researcher, then a Graduate Researcher at UNHcFREG. She is a U.S Army combat veteran currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Cyber Systems at the University of New Haven. Cinthya is currently working on a research project about the availability of datasets in digital forensics and security. She is interested in digital forensics, security, and ethical hacking and continuously published in the domain. 

Laoise Luciano

Graduate Research Assistant, Graduate Researcher

A former U.S. Navy veteran, Laoise is now working on her Masters in Computer Science at UNH with a focus on Cyber Security/Forensics.  After getting her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences with a pre-med track from the University of St. Joseph, she decided on a different path to follow.  An avid video gamer, Laoise spends time online raiding with her group in Final Fantasy XIV, among others.  She also holds an orange/purple belt in
kickboxing and likes to ski.  When not at UNH, she likes to spend time with her 14 year old Shiba Inu, Kira.

Matuesz (Matt) Topor - ALUMNI

Research Assistant, Graduate Researcher - Now works at Undisclosed

Mateusz Topor is currently a Cyber Systems Master's Student at the University of New Haven. He has experience as a penetration tester/security consultant, and his interests are in security and digital forensics. He is originally from Poland, and raised in Illinois. Most of his spare time is spent coding, learning, and tinkering. On occasion he enjoys working out, skiing, and mountain biking. Matt now works at UNDISCLOSED.

Trevor Haigh - ALUMNI

Graduate Researcher - Now Cybersecurity Engineer at MITRE

Trevor Haigh is currently pursuing his Master's in Computer Science at the University of New Haven. Trevor is a research student interested in cyber security and is focusing on reverse engineering. Additionally, Trevor is a member of the marching band at the university and plays the tuba. Trevor is now a cybersecurity engineer at MITRE.

Philip Levine - ALUMNI

Graduate Researcher - Now Adjunct at University of New Haven

Philip Levine originally graduated UNH with a B.A in Psychology, and is now returned for an M.S. in Computer Science for formal training in programming and software development. Philip has a passion for Virtual Reality and video games, and works to create experiences to engage students, treat patients, and terrify gamers. Phillip is now an Adjunct at the University of New Haven.

Frank Breitinger (PhD) - ALUMNI

Former Co-Director (Now at University of Liechtenstein)

Frank Breitinger has extensive experience in the areas of cybersecurity and Cyber Forensics. Before completing his PhD at the Technical University Darmstadt and CASED (Center for Advanced Security research Darmstadt), he attained his Bachelor degree at the University of applied sciences Mannheim and his Master degree at the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt (all in Germany). In addition to his academic career, he was self-employed for 5 years, worked for the National Institute of Standards and Technology and worked as a software developer for the University of Maryland and the sobedi GmbH (Mannheim, Germany). Brandon Knieriem - ALUMNI

Graduate Researcher, now Full Stack Software Engineer @ athleteReg

Brandon Knieriem initially attended the University of New Haven for a Criminal Justice M.S. Prior to completing the program he also decided to pursue another Masters in Computer Science in order to prepare for a career in cyber crime investigation. He enjoys programming, developing educational game software, hiking, and making music. He has been involved in the artifact collection for the Artifact Genome Project. 

Peter Casey - ALUMNI

Peter Gromkowski is a former U.S. Army Ranger and JTAC pursuing a M.S. in Computer Science at the University of New Haven. He has experience controlling aircraft, ordnance delivery, and communication systems. Prior to his service he completed a B.S. in Biology from SUNY Geneseo. His current area of research is focused around virtual reality systems and their vulnerabilities. Peter is an avid tennis player and hiker. 

Robert (Rob) Schmicker - ALUMNI

Robert Schmicker is currently an undergraduate Computer Science research student at the University of New Haven. Once completed he intends to continue his education at the masters level under Dr. Breitinger and Dr. Baggili’s guidance. In his downtime Robert enjoys surfing, kayaking, and playing ice hockey.

Joseph (Joe) Ricci - ALUMNI

Undergraduate Researcher, now Cybersecurity Consultant for Lodestone Security

Joseph Ricci is a United States Navy veteran (5 years) and is currently an undergraduate studying cyber systems at the University of New Haven. He is passionate about cyber security and forensics. He has published a book chapter regarding smartwatches and their security implications ("Watch What You Wear: Smartwatches and."/Managing Security Issues and the Hidden Dangers of Wearable Technologies/(2016): 47.). After receiving his bachelors, his plans are to gain experience in the cyber security/forensics domain. He enjoys spending his spare time with his wife, two dogs, weight lifting, video games, and reading.

Ananya Yarramreddy - ALUMNI

Graduate Researcher, now Security Specialist for State of NC

Ananya Yarramreddy is currently pursuing her second masters in Cybersecurity and Networks at the University of New Haven. She completed her first masters in Computer Networking from Northumbria university, UK. She was part of the networking team in Deloitte for 2 years before joining the university. Her interests include Network designing, Network Forensics and Cybersecurity. She is originally from India and enjoys reading books and playing chess.

Spent 7 years in the USAF. Did my undergraduate in Electrical Engineering. Doing my Masters in Comp Sci. Interest in cyber security and forensics and embedded systems. Martin is an enthusiastic student researcher focused on cyber security and computer networks, currently (2018) pursuing his master's degree at the Brno University of Technology. He has completed the Bachelor's  degree with honors at the same university and has received several  academic awards. He has participated in student exchange programs at the University of Malta and the University of South Wales. In his free time, he likes long-distance running.

Daniel Walnycky recently graduated from the University of New Haven with a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology. Daniel has plans to continue his education through the UNH graduate program. Dr Xiaolu Zhang (PhD) - ALUMNI

Visiting Scholar, now Assistant Professor In Practice at University of Texas at San Antonio

Xiaolu Zhang is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Computer Science and Technology, Jilin University, China. Xiaolu’s is interested in computer forensics and network security. As a visiting PhD student (researcher), he received a state scholarship funded by China Scholarship Council for his one-year research plan at UNH. He has been living in Milford, CT with his wife and one-year old son.

 

Davon Clark - ALUMNI

Graduate Researcher, now Senior Computer Systems Engineer at Humatics Corporation

Devon Clark is currently a Computer Science Master’s Student at the University of New Haven. He has experience in robotics and automation, industrial hardware development, and embedded systems. His interests include hardware and software development, as well as addressing the security concerns related to these systems. In his free time he also enjoys playing guitar and drums, snowboarding, and riding his motorcycle.

Vikram S. Harichandran is a current M.S. student in Computer Science at the University of New Haven and a research assistant for Dr. Frank Breitinger. Although switching career pathways from biochemistry to CS he has a strong desire to incorporate his diverse interests to cyber security, digital forensics, and biology-related applications in the future. In his free time he hosts MiD-Mode, an electronic music radio show on WNHU 88.7FM.

Zhaoheng (Mike) Yang is a graduate student in Computer Science program. He is interested in Digital Forensics, system programming and artificial intelligence. He enjoys learning psychology, art history and playing tennis. Mike's work on Android malware detection using machine learning is its final stages for submission.

William Putnam is a 5th year student at UNH, majoring in both computer science and computer engineering. He is interested in embedded systems, especially related to automotive systems. He plays the saxophone and studies Japanese in his free time. He hopes to obtain his masters in computer engineering in Japan.

Jason Moore is working towards a Computer Science Master’s with a focus in Computer Forensics.  Jason’s interests include psychology, cyber security, and criminal profiling.  In his free time, he enjoys learning Mandarin and playing sports. Jason has published quite a bit of research in digital forensics, and has interned at the Defense Cyber Crime Center (DC3) through a MITRE program.

Jaylen Johnson is currently a senior at UNH majoring in Information Technology with a concentration in Network Administration and Security with a minor in Criminal Justice. He is also a member of the University’s football team on campus and a member of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. Jason has also completed an internship at the Port Authority of NY & NJ as an Application Development and Databases Intern. Jaylen has also been a security intern at Sikorsky.
